Blue Hair Day 2007 (my first watercolor since in my pre-teens)

Blue Hair Day Revisited 2009 after 1 1/2 years of being self-taught with the help of some talented deviants like =gabbachoo

Made for the Kick Your Own @ss Contest
Section 3-Traditional Images

How have I improved? I think my style has developed. I still adore my illustrative style, I still do a lot of paintings with thick black lines. But Gabby has helped me with angles and realism. I'm still not great at it, but it's my own style and I'm learning as I go.

The realism in the newer one is impressive... I do also like your illustrated style, maybe even a little bit more because it has this sort of... I'm not sure, presence, or attitude (maybe style!) that sets it apart.

A lot of people do realistic watercolours, and a lot of people do it well, but if you can do it with your own distinctive style, it'll set you apart from the others, and I think your illustrative style does that. (I especially love Shattered Daydreams)

wow you have improved so much!! She looks more realistic and has shape and form. Instead of indicating that she has a nose by drawing a line, you have created the nose by filling in the shadows, the same with the neck area.

Lovely work!

I definitely see improvement. The new one is more realistic, the first one is a lot more cartoony. Not that it's bad, I like them both but I can see how your style has changed a bit. Matured I guess you could say. I'm jealous, I can't draw worth a flip.

I can't draw worth a flip either so don't worry ;) The painting is a little different because I took years of oil painting classes from a local preacher's wife. She had this little class one day a week. I used to sit in there with a bunch of senior citizens who could work on something for months getting every little detail perfect... and I'd want to churn out a painting every class. I hated waiting for the oils to dry. PLUS my teacher was left handed and I'm right handed, so it was sometimes hard to comprehend her brush strokes because they were backwards.

Thankfully I found watercolors which dry faster ;)

I can understand that. My husband's grandmother was like that, she took all kinds of art and craft classes at her church and made all these little things but I tried a crosstitch once and because it took so long to complete I never finished it.

Oh yeah, I have a latchhook pillow that I started for my cousin about 10+ years ago when her room was decorated in sunflowers. It is still on my bookshelf. She has since moved to FL, gone to college, got married, and had her first child.
